The Oscar Warrior: Hollywood Celebrates Itself!
A few months back, a number of my Oscar blogging colleagues had been pointing out that no movie about Hollywood or the movie business had ever won Best Picture at the Oscars, which at the time was more of a disclaimer for what was already looking to be the frontrunner. Now it's a few months later and two of the top Best Picture contenders are movies about making movies that either celebrate Hollywood as a whole or celebrate the earliest filmmaking pioneers. Clearly, this is the year when Hollywood is ready to celebrate itself in a big way and the trend of movies about moviemaking not being considered Oscar-worthy is coming to an end.

?John Carter? To Screen For The Giants and Patriots Before Super Bowl XLVI; Plus New Featurette
Super Bowl Sunday is one of America's biggest non-denominational holidays. Whether you follow the NFL every single Sunday or hardly know which teams are participating, odds are at some point you'll be sucked into the hype. Maybe it's for the commercials or maybe it's because there's a party going but either way, Sunday's game is hard to avoid.
As film fans, Super Bowl XLVI has a few cool, minor threads. For example Rooney Mara, star of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, is the niece of the owner of the New York Giants. So just imagine an actress who is Oscar-nominated for playing an anti-social hero jumping up and down based on the play of Eli Manning. Kind of hard to picture.
Another thing is that Andrew Stanton, a native of Rockport, Massachusetts, will reportedly screen his latest film, John Carter, for not only his hometown team, the New England Patriots, but the Giants as well. Read more about it after the jump and check out a new featurette with never-bef0re-seen footage.
The news came from a column at the Boston Herald [1] which said the following:
Disney will screen the upcoming action-adventure film “John Carter” for the Patriots, Giants and their families [Friday] afternoon at an Indy cinema. The flick, starring Taylor Kitsch, Lynn Collins, Samantha Morton, Bryan Cranston and Willem Dafoe is directed by Rockport homey Andrew Stanton. No throwing popcorn, boys!
In itself, this isn't really that big of a deal. A bunch of football players are watching a movie. But it does speak both only to the fact that the film is done and ready to go and also has some sort of inspirational heartbeat. Maybe one of the players will pull something from the film and use it on the field or quote it in the post game. I doubt it but you never know.
That said, this new featurette is pretty exciting. Led Zeppelin is always a good thing and this breaks down the story in a very digestible way.
Not bad, right? I'm almost ready to play in the Super Bowl after watching that.
Can you think of any other good reason to screen the film for players? What are your thoughts on this?

Really? Katherine Heigl Signs on for Puppet Noir 'Happytime Murders'
Right off the bat, I'm going to tell you that this article contains my own opinion, so if you're not used to that by now, I'm sorry. Frankly, I've been really excited to see what happens with the comedic thriller The Happytime Murders since the project was announced back in 2008. Thankfully, back in 2010 the project was picked up by Lionsgate with Jim Henson's son Brian Henson (who helmed A Muppet Christmas Carol) lined up to direct a script from Kung Fu Panda 2 scribe Todd Berger. Well, Variety reports the film has gained Katherine Heigl as talent in the film and I really could not be more displeased with the news.
The story takes place in a world where humans and puppets co-exist, but the non-humans are considered second-class citizens. When a puppet cast of an 80's childrens' show called "The Happytime Gang" starts to get murdered one-by-one, a disgraced ...

?Bullhead? US Trailer: Oscar-Nominated ?Roid Rage
Drafthouse Films found itself in an interesting predicament recently: the label picked up rights to distribute [1] the film Bullhead a couple months ago, and has been planning a rollout. But then the movie snagged a nomination [2] for the Best Foreign Language Film Oscar. Suddenly there's reason to get Bullhead into theaters sooner rather than later, and the Drafthouse team went into overdrive to make that happen.
A poster for the film debuted earlier this week, and now we've got the first US trailer. Watching this I can see why the film did well at Fantastic Fest and why Drafthouse Films was eager to pick it up. There is undeniably a fighting angle to the movie, but Bullhead is really a crime thriller that looks like it has one hell of a physical performance from Mattias Schoenaerts. The trailer is oppressive as hell, with an atmosphere that made me a bit uncomfortable in the span of a mere two minutes.
Check out the trailer below.
Apple [3] has the trailer in HD. Bullhead will hit theaters [4] on February 17.
Perhaps the year's most stunning international debut, Michael R. Roskam's BULLHEAD is a harrowing tale of revenge, redemption and fate. Domineering cattle farmer Jacky Vanmarsenille (Mattias Schoenaerts in a ferocious breakout performance), constantly pumped on steroids and hormones, initiates a shady deal with a notorious mafioso meat trader. When an investigating federal agent is assassinated and a woman from his traumatic past resurfaces, Jacky must confront his demons and face the far-reaching consequences of his decisions. Acclaimed at festivals worldwide including the Berlin Film Festival, AFI Fest and Fantastic Fest, the award-winning BULLHEAD is visceral thriller bursting with rage that TwitchFilm calls "one of the most original crime films in recent memory."

Jane Levy Replaces Lily Collins in Fede Alvarez's 'Evil Dead' Remake
While it was initially reported that Mirror, Mirror star Lily Collins would move from the lighthearted fantasy of Tarsem Singh's fairytale adaptation to the dark horror of Fede Alvarez's remake of Evil Dead, the actress has left the project. However, Deadline reports an actress has quickly replaced her with Jane Levy, the star of ABC series "Suburgatory" and the forthcoming film Fun Size from Josh Schwartz. She will now play the lead role of Mia, one of five friends holed up at a remote cabin where they discover a Book of the Dead which unleashes a demonic force possessing each until only one is left to fight. But there's more!
First of all, director Fede Alvarez also recently unveiled (via ShockTillYouDrop) this picture of the woods which will be very important in crafting the ambiance and dark environment for the horror remake:
And Variety also has word that Red Riding Hood actor ...

This Week In Trailers: The Hidden Face (La Cara Oculta), 28 Hotel Rooms, Pursuit of Loneliness, Natura Morta, Ignoring The World
Trailers are an under-appreciated art form insofar that many times they’re seen as vehicles for showing footage, explaining films away, or showing their hand about what moviegoers can expect. Foreign, domestic, independent, big budget: I celebrate all levels of trailers and hopefully this column will satisfactorily give you a baseline of what beta wave I’m operating on, because what better way to hone your skills as a thoughtful moviegoer than by deconstructing these little pieces of advertising? Some of the best authors will tell you that writing a short story is a lot harder than writing a long one, that you have to weigh every sentence. What better medium to see how this theory plays itself out beyond that than with movie trailers?
28 Hotel Rooms Trailer
Matt Ross. It's good to see at least one person has done well for himself after PCU.
Sure, you could point to Jeremy Piven, Alex Désert, or even Megan Ward but Ross was the glue stick that pulled everything together with that epileptic flop. So, it's with at least a passing fascination that this trailer challenges the normal narrative direction of things by having a story that simply begins, never looks back, and even stuffs their Sundance acceptance at the butt end of this thing. It's amazingly non-plussed about doing any tooting of any horns but the trailer is so much better for it.
There are no stutter stops, nothing impeding your engagement with the narrative and the flow of what is being presented and the presentation is haunting. The morose and saddening musical intro with the flickering eyes of Marin Ireland just sets the perfect tone; you get immediately that even if she's married to the guy next to him or if it's a one night fling things will not end well. However, the explosion of activity as she and Chris Messina cavort, slip and slide on top of one another is nothing short of engaging. Various hours of the day and night, the metric tons of sex that is happening is almost incidental to you figuring out what is going on here.
The last moments of a drunk Messina calling out off his balcony almost seems rhetorical, if it isn't already, but it's the perfect bow put on a package that shows you exactly how you should make a trailer that wants to deal with infidelity.
Pursuit of Loneliness Trailer
Some people might have issues with looking forward to stories that are a little morose and sad but this looks like a story that has some unusual twists.
Since this is director Laurence Thrush's second feature there really isn't much to go off of but his first effort, Left Handed, also done in black and white, offers some clues about where he's going with this movie. The trailer, thankfully stamping its Sundance 2012 seal of approval at the first opportunity, requires a little effort to follow. It appears that an old lady dies and things are put into motion from there.
Other stories, other people's deaths, follow and it looks like this is a film all about filling in the gaps. People who are unaware of these individuals' life stories, people who leave this earth without anyone to see them off, it's genuinely sad stuff. The melancholy piano suite in the background isn't helping elevate anything or offering any kind of levity but that's fine. In fact, this is a trailer that really focuses tightly on the issues that are raised when other people have to put together the pieces and stories of John and Jane Doe when they shuffle off this mortal coil.
It's remarkable that no one actor stands out as the person who we might be following for the majority of the time, it's Altman-esque in how varied the pool of characters we get introduced to, but it's not often when we get an independent effort like this where the story is as varied as the people we're going to get to know. Again, sad stuff but hopefully there's something uplifting that will come out of human beings who die alone.
The Hidden Face (La Cara Oculta) Trailer
Praise director Andrés Baiz for at last finding a good use of the Lost outro sound effect.
Apart from looking like a thriller that actually held my attention for the entire duration of the trailer, this movie seems incredibly fun. Who wouldn't love a movie where a suspicious girlfriend accidently locks herself inside a panic room with no key and has but a one way mirror that looks directly on her lover's bedroom?
The trailer is deft at setting up this high concept story and doing it fast enough that as soon as we get what's going on, the crux of the film's drama plays out with a locked door and no way for this woman to get out. It's just fascinating to watch as we aren't allowed to see what becomes of the locked up girl, that gets high marks from me for that alone in an era where everything is spoiled by these things, and to see how things start getting weird with the new live-in lovelies it just takes things up a notch.
Again, this would be completely easy just to mess up by giving me what I want. As it stands, you have me on the hook to find out what does become of the woman who locks herself away. Does she get out? Does she end up dying in there? I'm sure the answer is somewhere in between but thankfully I don't know by the time it gets to the end.
Natura Morta Trailer
In the first of two trailers that showcases the talent of our readership, I was sent this short from Luca Simon Biccheri and, boy, do I wish this was made into a feature.
When it was sent to me I thought it was actually going to be a trailer for a movie that Luca has made but, alas, it would be all said and done with in a matter of a few minutes.
True, while this isn't a trailer, I'm calling it one because to have a guy who looks like the worlds biggest rube going up against fast moving dead people (I'm on the side of the zombies who are light on their feet) and it's damn hilarious to see how this thing ends. It's not blow your mind out funny, slapping the floor with the palm of your hand comedic, but it just feels like there is more to this guy than some idiot taking pastoral shots with his Nikon. I could easily see a full-length feature of this guy up against a zombie horde. Expressionless, emotionless, make him a mute even, and you've got my dollar. As it stands, though, loved the concept and execution.

Ignoring The World Trailer
I remember the movies I was making when I was young.
The one I did when I was 19 for a Spanish 102 class called Las Fruitas De Wrath in which I also starred with a couple other team members is an unmitigated disaster. It's wretched. The one I did when I was 13, called The Trial of G.I. Joe in which a figure was doused in rubbing alcohol and set on fire at the end, was even more of a garish insult to anyone with an iota of common sense. That's why when fifteen year-old filmmaker Palmer Stanfield shot me a note asking whether the trailer for his feature was good enough for inclusion in this week's column I wanted to give the man a chance.
I genuinely dig the abilities, at the very least, to make a compelling enough trailer for a film I didn't know about before clicking on it and I really am impressed with the more technical acumen of someone who is only that age as it shows promise as a filmmaker who has lots to learn but can at least make a few things interesting to look at.
What say the rest of you?
Nota bene: If you have any suggestions of trailers to possibly be included in this column, even have a trailer of your own to pitch, please let me know by sending me a note at Christopher_Stipp@yahoo.com
In case you missed them, here are the other trailers we covered at /Film this week:
Mirror Mirror Trailer [2] - This movie certainly has style, I'll give it that. Unfortunately, that's all I'll give it.
God Bless America Trailer [3] - Dangerous in all the right ways.
Game of Thrones Trailer [4] - Geeks, rejoice! This is looking like one hell of a season.
The Cold Light of Day Trailer [5] - Redbox, circa October 2012, I'll gladly pay a $1 to see this.
L Trailer [6] - Man, does this look wicked awesome. It might be weird for weird's sake but I'm on board.
7500 Trailer [7] - I like the idea but the trailer is marginally better than good. If it wants to sell me it's got to come harder with the creepiness and not so much with the initial kookiness that we get.
Get The Gringo Trailer [8] - I've been one to champion the fun factor of a movie like The Mexican every now and then so it's with surprised delight that this looks like its sequel.
Game Change Trailer [9] - The trailer sells me a political vehicle I actually want to see for once. Good job.
G.I. Joe Retaliation Trailer [10] - THIS is what summers were made for. Big, dumb, and full of come hither.
The Hunger Games Trailer #2 [11] - I've never read the books but I'm cautiously optimistic for what I see here. Looks ten pounds better than the Twilight series, if that means anything.

Terry Crews explains Expendables 2 PG-13 rating

Last month we brought you news that the forthcoming Expendables sequel would be working within the confines of a PG-13 certificate, after Chuck Norris refused to sign on unless the film was a swear-free zone. Disappointing news then, for fans of the kind of guts and glory actioners the film harks back to.
However, according to Norris’s co-star Terry Crews, the decision to open the film to a wider audience can only be a good thing.
“It's PG-13,” begins Crews. “Do you really think only men 40 and over saw the first one? The kids bought tickets to Eat, Pray, Love and walked right into The Expendables.” Which kind of begs the question, why bother changing the certificate?
In any case, Crews is adamant that the lack of boobs, blood and sweariness won’t detract from the overall experience.
“I get [the concerns]. I really do," he says. "But boobs and blood do not a good movie make. You don't want to go - don't go. I respect it. But you will miss the greatest thing you've ever seen.”
To make sure you treat your eyeballs to the greatest thing they’ve ever seen (and you can take a Terry Crews promise to the bank – the blood bank! Sorry), be sure to buy yourself a ticket when The Expendables 2 opens in August 2012.

Frank Grillo Says Joe Carnahan?s ?Death Wish? is About Two Brothers
One bit of Death Wish trivia known to those who've read a lot about the film's early development is that Sidney Lumet was originally looking at adapting the Brian Garfield novel that Michael Winner eventually turned into the film starring Charles Bronson. Lumet was looking at casting Jack Lemmon in the role of accountant Paul Benjamin, whose wife is killed and daughter incapacitated by a violent attack. (In the Winner film, the character's name and occupation were changed.) That would have been a very different film than the eventual Bronson version, and likely one that did not celebrate vigilante violence in the manner of Winner's movie.
Now, to follow The Grey, director Joe Carnahan is writing and planning to direct a new version [1] of Death Wish. He's creating a role for Frank Grillo, after Grillo was so good in one of the most important roles in The Grey. Carnahan has explained a bit [2] about his new Death Wish -- that it will be set in LA, and showcase lesser-seen sides of the city -- and now Grillo has revealed that the film will feature two brothers, and possibly echo the approach that Lumet might have taken if he had directed the original film decades ago.
On the Matthew Aaron Show, Grillo said,
He (Joe Carnahan) is imagining it as a two hander, it's not just Bronson's [character], it's two brothers.
There's a hint in the interview that Russell Crowe was being pursued for the primary character, with Grillo being eyed as the other brother. Given the recent surge of interest in Crowe it seems unlikely that he'd play the role, which is too bad, as I think Crowe would be perfect casting for a liberal accountant whose brush with violence forces him into paranoia and vigilantism.
Grillo is asked about Liam Neeson being in the movie and Grillo's response is basically, "yeah, it's a great idea." No word on whether Neeson might be the primary character, or the cop who pursues him. (That role was wonderfully played by Vincent Gardenia in the first two Death Wish movies.)
When asked about the Lumet version of Death Wish, Grillo said,
I think it's closer to what you're talking about, and not doing what the Charles Bronson movies did, they were fun but when you go back and watch them they don't really hold up very well, they were a product of their time. He (Carnahan) wants to do something far more interesting, which is what Lumet had in mind for the film.
Here's the audio interview:

Al Pacino to Voice the Villain in Illumination's 'Despicable Me' Sequel
Not too many films have seen the better days of Al Pacino lately as he seems to be struggling just as much in his acting career, if not moreso, than Robert De Niro as they both get up there in the years. However, the best part of Pacino will likely go to good use sooner than later as Deadline has word that the Scarface and The Godfather star will voice the villain in Illumination Entertainment and Universal Pictures' forthcoming sequel to Despicable Me. Of course, we still have no idea where Gru (voiced by Steve Carell) and his adorable little minions will be headed for the sequel, or even what kind of villain Pacino will be playing.
Believe it or not, this will mark the animated debut of Pacino who has never lent his voice to a feature like this before. With his trademark raspy, yelling you'd think studios would be ...

Sequel Bits: James Wan and Leigh Whannell Back for ?Insidious 2?, ?Bridget Jones?s Baby? on Track to Shoot This Year
[1]
An Insidious sequel has been all but inevitable ever since the film grossed $97 million worldwide on a $1.5 million budget, putting cartoon dollar signs in studio execs' eyes. We got our first sign that the wheels were in motion when Sony locked down [2] related domain names like insidious2movie.com late last year, and now things are officially moving forward. Director James Wan and scribe Leigh Whannell are in talks to return for a new Insidious film, with Jason Blum set to produce. Brian Kavanaugh Jones, Oren Peli, and Steven Schneider will executive produce.
There's no word yet on whether stars Patrick Wilson and Rose Byrne will reprise their roles for the sequel. But for what it's worth, Wilson apparently likes working with Wan -- the two are already planning to reunite for a different horror project [3], formerly titled The Conjuring. No plot details for Insidious 2 (or whatever it'll be called) have been revealed at this time, though the first film's ending could easily serve as a setup for a follow-up.
After the jump, Bridget Jones's Baby hits a speed bump but plans to soldier on.
Last night, reports [4] began circling that Bridget Jones 3, a.k.a. Bridget Jones's Baby, was "basically dead" after script troubles caused star Hugh Grant to "walk off in a huff." But fans of the franchise -- if indeed there are any among our /Film readers -- needn't worry. Working Title Films co-chairman Tim Bevan has issued a statement [5] insisting that the production is still on track, albeit with a slight delay, and that Grant remains on board along with Colin Firth and Renee Zellweger.
"Reports that Hugh Grant has exited Bridget Jones’s Baby are untrue," Bevan said. "We are still working on the script hence the delay to the start of production, but the film is going ahead as planned."
Script problems aren't the only snag the project has encountered lately. Director Paul Feig departed [6] Bridget Jones last fall over creative differences, with The Full Monty helmer Peter Cattaneo taking over [7] his place in late November. It's unclear how long production will be pushed back, but Firth in particular has a busy schedule that could prove troublesome, with The Railway Man and Atom Egoyan's The Devil's Knot lined up for his near future.

Shiloh Fernandez Cast in ?The Evil Dead;? Jane Levy in Talks For Lead Role [Updated]
That new version of The Evil Dead is still pulling together a cast, after Lily Collins dropped out [1] of the lead role. Collins would have played a troubled girl who, with her brother and some friends, goes to a remote cabin to detox, where supernatural forces are awakened to threaten the group.
With Collins out of the picture the film still needs a female lead, but it now has a male lead. Shiloh Fernandez (Deadgirl, Skateland, Red Riding Hood) will play one of the film's key roles.
Update: Just after we published this article, Jane Levy (Shamesless, Suburgatory, Fun Size) was revealed as being in talks to take the role formerly held by Lily Collins. More info follows.
Variety [2] announces the casting, but doesn't offer any detail. Saying that he's taking one of the lead roles, however, suggests that he'll be David, the brother of Mia, which was the character that Collins was going to play. Variety does say that with Fernandez cast, the producers and director Fede Alvarez will move on to re-casting the lead female role.
The rest of the cast is David's fiancee and a couple of their other friends, and then whatever extra Deadites ended up in the script written by Alvarez and Rodo Sayagues, with additional work from Diablo Cody.
I was interested in Collins as the possible 'final girl' of The Evil Dead, but this choice doesn't do anything for me. My primary association with Shiloh Fernandez is from Red Riding Hood, in which I thought he was easily the weakest link. Knowing that he was a bit better in Deadgirl helps slightly, but I'm going to have to wait to see who else is cast before I really accept the idea. Then again, I don't really expect Fernandez to live through the movie, so that might be fun to watch.
Update: So now we've likely got Jane Levy in the Mia role, as Deadline [3] just announced that she's in talks for the part. Levy is nearly a total unknown to me, so I can't make any guesses about the film based on her casting. If you've seen her stuff, please chime in below.
The Evil Dead is scheduled for an April 12, 2013 release.

You Can't Hear Elizbaeth Olsen Scream on Poster for 'Silent House'
The first trailer for the forthcoming remake of Silent House starring Elizabeth Olsen touted the idea of a real-time horror flick, and the poster is keeping that claim afloat. However, in the film that is supposedly one single take through an entire house of horrors, there's bound to be some trickery afoot. However, I'm pleased to see that the first poster for the film doesn't use a standard image of an ominous haunted house, but rather focuses on Sundance starlet Olsen clearly scared out of her wits by something. The question is whether or not the film actually works as well as the original Uruguayan film on which this remake is based.
Here's the poster for Chris Kentis and Laura Lau's Silent House via IMP Awards:
Trapped inside her family's haunted lakeside retreat, a young woman (Olsen) descends into madness...
Silent House, the US remake, was co-directed by American filmmakers Chris Kentis & ...

?Chronicle? director makes blockbuster on the cheap
Look up in the sky. It's a bird, it's a plane, it's a flying angst-ridden teenager! "Chronicle" director Joshua Trank somehow managed to take two of the most overused genres in the multiplex these days — "found-footage" films and superhero flicks — and mash them together into something both unique and clever.

Joel Edgerton and Jessica Chastain Sign on for Double Feature ?The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby?
[1]
Filmgoers will be seeing a lot of rising stars Joel Edgerton and Jessica Chastain in the coming months, and it seems the two rising stars will be quite a bit of each other as well. Edgerton and Chastain are already set to co-star in Kathryn Bigelow's untitled Osama bin Laden thriller, and they've now signed on to work on two more films together, called The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby: His and The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby: Hers. The pair may be joined by William Hurt, who is currently in talks. More details after the jump.
Ned Benson (In Defiance of Gravity) will direct both features from his own scripts, which explore a New York-based couple going through a rough patch in their marriage. His will follow the events from the perspective of the husband, a restaurant owner; Hers will tell the tale from the wife's point of view as she heads back to college. Cassandra Kulukundis will produce and serve as casting director. Hurt's role has not been revealed at this time.
I'm a sucker for movies about failing relationships to begin with, and I love the idea of two films telling the same tale from two different angles. The same exact events can seem radically different depending on who's telling the story, especially if the people involved aren't quite on the same wavelength at the moment. On the downside, if the project is badly done, audiences could wind up paying twice for what's essentially the same film, but the press release [2] notes that both parts are intended as stand-alone features.
Edgerton and Chastain are gearing up to start shooting soon on Bigelow's thriller, which has a targeted release date of December 19. The picture is just one of several each has lined up for the year: Chastain also stars in this year's Mama, The Wettest County, Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted, and the untitled Terrence Malick movie, while Edgerton recently attended Sundance for the premiere of Wish You Were Here and has The Odd Life of Timothy Green and The Great Gatsby due out next.

Sound Off: Josh Trank's First Film 'Chronicle' - What Did You Think?
Now that you've seen it, what did you think? Now in theaters everywhere is a movie titled Chronicle, from first-time feature director Josh Trank (hear his story), a found-footage movie about three high school teens in Seattle who get telekinetic superpowers and what happens after that. And boy does it get crazy. Is it as awesome as the concept sounds on paper? Should it have even been a found-footage movie to begin with? How are the three leads: Dane DeHaan as Andrew (the crazy one), Alex Russell as Matt and Michael B. Jordan as Steve? Once you've seen it, post a comment below with your own thoughts on Trank's Chronicle.
To fuel the fire, I love Chronicle, it is such an awesome movie. I really think Josh Trank made something extremely original and refreshing for the genre, as well as a film that's as entertaining as it is fascinating to watch. ...

Chris Rock Looks to Melissa McCarthy for a New Marriage Comedy?
It seems like everyone is keen on teaming up with Melissa McCarthy after her turn in Bridesmaids last year, which just won her an Oscar nomination last month. Jason Bateman will do Identity Theft with the comedienne later this year and there's been talk of a few more projects with Jon Hamm and The Help director Tate Taylor. Now 24 Frames has word that Chris Rock is looking to get McCarthy into a marriage comedy that he's writing that would see the actress playing his wife as part of a "Jerry Springer couple." However, McCarthy isn't officially involved in the project just yet as Rock says, "I'm trying to romance her."
Rock is fresh off a great romantic comedy with 2 Days in New York opposite Julie Delpy. The two have fast and fantastic chemistry, so I'd love to see how Rock fares with McCarthy as his lover. Either way, we'll ...

New poster for 21 Jump Street

A new poster has been released for upcoming comedy 21 Jump Street, and judging by the explosions, it looks as though Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum have been dropped into their very own action spectacular.
We’re not sure the way they’re holding those guns conforms to police protocol, but they look like they’re having fun, so who are we to complain?
Is it just us, or does anyone else keep getting the promotional material for this one muddled up with those Modern Warfare ads? In both cases, Jonah Hill plays the buffoon to a hulking, musclebound straight-man as gunfire and explodey mayhem reigns supreme. Maybe we just need to get used to the new, streamlined Jonah…
21 Jump Street sees Hill and Tatum play a pair of undercover cops, sent to infiltrate their local high school in order to bust a ring of drug pushers. As the new tagline so succinctly puts it, “They thought the streets were mean… then they went back to high school.”
The film opens in the UK on 16 March 2012. In the meantime, you can check out the new poster in full, below. Police badge on a chain… that always looks badass, doesn’t it?
